Rev Dr Raymond Brown
We note the death recently of the Rev Dr Raymond Brown. He had ministries at the Baptist churches of Zion, Cambridge, Upton Vale in Torquay and Victoria Baptist church, Eastbourne. From 1971-73 he was a Tutor at Spurgeons Baptist College and Principal there 1973-1986.
Dr Brown produced several books and articles of a devotional nature and also commentaries on Old and New Testament books. His works on the history of Dissent were Spirituality in Adversity: English Nonconformity in a Period of Repression, 1660-1689; Evangelical Ideas of Perfection in the Nineteenth Century and The History of the English Baptists in the Eighteenth Century. He also wrote an unpublished thesis on Baptists in Cambridgeshire and several articles in the Baptist Quarterly.
For many years, Dr Brown served as a trustee of the Baptist Historical Society and was then elected a Vice-President. He also served for many years as a Trustee of the Dr Williams' Trust.
